Annie is the second play I have designed and built at Berkwood Hedge School. Last spring, we did Newsies and again, with this show, I would be working with fifth graders. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to revitalize some components of the set from the last show. I kept the three flats, leaving the bricks on one side and changing the other.  I also wanted to bring in some new set pieces; I chose to add a staircase with a door. In my original mockups, I designed it as a two-sided staircase, but after talking to the director, we decided to go with just one staircase to free up more space on stage.
